Large cities are turning to underground space to develop increasingly complex networks of railway lines and critical infrastructure such as telecommunication, electricity, water and sewage. This edition examines some of the recent developments in Tokyo, including the overnight relocation of the Toyoko Line station in Shibuya. It also looks at the challenges faced by Japanese engineers to improve the safety and efficiency of their work.
