The Lost Children of Okawa

On a fateful day in 2011, a major earthquake and tsunami hit the Okawa District in Miyagi Prefecture. The tsunami surged up the Kitakami River, destroying everything in its path. Okawa Elementary School was located outside the tsunami danger zone on the official hazard map, yet 74 out of 108 children lost their lives as the tsunami swept through the school. 10 of 11 teachers and staffs were also perished. None of the other schools in the earthquake and tsunami hit region lost so many children. What happened at the elementary school? Why couldn't those children be saved? 2 years have passed since the tsunami, but parents are still struggling to find a way to move forward. This documentary follows the pain and anguish in the lives of people who lost their precious children.
