One of the last survivors recalls the Battle of Okinawa
One-fourth of the residents of Okinawa lost their lives in World War II, as some of the fiercest fighting took place where they lived. Sixteen years ago, Kazue Yamazato decided she wanted to do something to try to prevent the tragedy of war from being repeated. She began talking about her experience. This year, in declining health at the age of 86, she plans to complete her period of public speaking. Yet, she still has much to tell, 67 years after the Battle of Okinawa.
