Forbidden Kyoto - Winter Comes to the Geisha

Still shrouded in mystery in the 21st century, not even Japanese people know all there is to know about Kyoto.
In the fourth installment of this series, our guide, who knows the city inside out, takes us on a tour of forbidden Kyoto, taking the camera into places normally off limits to the public.

This episode focuses on a spectacular theatrical event that features an impressive array of popular Kabuki actors. Called 'Kaomise', the special festive performances bring the curtain down on the year in Kyoto. The dignified wooden signboards bearing the actors' names high above the entrance of the historic theater symbolize this annual year-end attraction. Wearing gorgeous kimono and with their hair done up in the traditional style, a group of maiko apprentice geisha inside the auditorium look as stunning as the actors on stage. But behind all the distinctive details, such as the making of the signboards and the presence of the maiko in the audience, there are various little-known points of etiquette and tradition filled with profound meaning. A mixture of great excitement and splendor is evident all around the theater as the year comes to an end in the chilly ancient city. The program investigates both the inside and outside of this beautiful world through the eyes of an Am erican writer.

I can't re-post files, sorry. The exception is files that are less than a day old. All mediafire links are broken forever. If you ask nicely and show that you tried but couldn't find the file elsewhere, someone may share it again.
