High school dancer reaches peak at Prix de Lausanne
Seventeen-year-old Madoka Sugai, won top honors at an annual international ballet competition in Switzerland. The Prix de Lausanne is viewed as a gateway to success for dancers between the ages of 15 and 18. This year, more than 200 were involved.
Sugai, from Kanagawa prefecture, not only earned the highest points for ballet. She also won a prize for contemporary dance. Our story shows how her commitment to practice allowed her to reach new heights.
Five of the 21 finalists were from Japan. We'll also speak with a dance expert about the country's commitment to dance.
