Japan 7 Days - 2012/02/18 - Health Food Business

Feb. 18, Sat. 14:10 - 14:40 (UTC) etc.

Healthy-Food Means Business

The World Health Organization says that several million people die of diseases caused by overweight and obesity every year. It warns that urgent measures must be developed to prevent health problems from spiraling further out of control.

Japan is no exception. Increased concern over high-blood pressure and diabetes in particular has led people to look for ways to eat well, both for health and taste.

A collection of low-calorie meals released by a Japanese healthcare equipment manufacturer is proving to be popular. It contains recipes for 500-calorie menus that are served in the company's staff dining room. The book sold more than 4 million copies in its initial year, leading the company to open a restaurant for the general public. A long line of customers forms every day.

Another version of superb healthy food has also made its debut. A hospital specializing in problems such as high-blood pressure and stroke has introduced meals that contain very small amounts of salt. It's now marketing the menus with a digital publisher.

Other news:
- Test drilling of methane hydrate begins, in hopes it will become a reliable energy source.
- Tokyo submits its proposal to host the 2020 Summer Olympics.

I can't re-post files, sorry. The exception is files that are less than a day old. All mediafire links are broken forever. If you ask nicely and show that you tried but couldn't find the file elsewhere, someone may share it again.
