Theo Jansen who creates strange, mobile work of art
Theo Jansen
Born in Scheveningen, the Netherlands, in 1948, he studied physics at university before shifting to art. He started building Strandbeests in 1990.
Strandbeest
Each Strandbeest - Dutch for Beach Beast - is made by Theo Jansen himself. It's the unifying term for all the creatures he creates.
Takeshi encounters an artwork that moves amazingly like a living creature! It is called the Strandbeest, which is Dutch for Beach Beast, and made by leading Dutch contemporary artist Theo Jansen. As Takeshi sets the beast in motion, it begins to walk with its numerous legs moving in a coordinated way. Takeshi loves mathematics and is also astonished to learn the sacred numbers which underpin the movement. Jansen's linkage of science with art to create new life forms has earned him the label of the 21st century Leonardo da Vinci. His Strandbeest is evolving and spreading around the world.

I can't re-post files, sorry. The exception is files that are less than a day old. All mediafire links are broken forever. If you ask nicely and show that you tried but couldn't find the file elsewhere, someone may share it again.
