Japan 7 Days - 2012/03/10 - Minamisanriku After the Tsunami

Mar. 10, Sat. 14:10 - 14:40 (UTC) etc.

One year after the earthquake that hit eastern Japan, Minamisanriku still struggles to restore itself

Japan 7 Days has visited the town of Minamisanriku several times over the past year to report on its reconstruction efforts. Anchor Minori Takao went there again this month to see what progress has been made.

Many of the people in the town feel that the pace of the reconstruction has been slow. Moreover, they worry about where to work and where to live. Their concept of the future remains unsettled.

Our program considers issues that have yet to be resolved and the support that is needed, looking at Minamisanriku as a microcosm of communities all across the devastated area.
Other news:
- Temporary shopping mall opens, restoring commerce and civic ties.
- Redevelopment plans for higher ground leave citizens wondering how to pay for new homes.
- Revival of key industries, such as fishing, plays a critical role in bringing back jobs.

I can't re-post files, sorry. The exception is files that are less than a day old. All mediafire links are broken forever. If you ask nicely and show that you tried but couldn't find the file elsewhere, someone may share it again.
