Cooperative Venture Gives Electric Cars a New Spin
A venture business made up of some 30 organizations is challenging the conventional wisdom on how to make an electric vehicle. Its approach has increased the maximum operating distance by 50% and reduced the price to about the same as a regular car by making the body lighter. The electric vehicle is the product of a company called Sim-Drive, headed by Professor Hiroshi Shimizu of Keio University. One of the innovations is distributing the power by placing a motor in each of the wheels. The new creation is attracting interest, both in Japan and abroad.
