Buddhist priests expand outreach
Many people in Japan are only accustomed to encountering Buddhist priests at funerals and memorial services. But since last year's disaster, the occasions for contact have been expanding.
In Tokyo's Ginza district, for example, many women gather at events conducted by young priests to talk about their worries. And in areas hit directly by the disaster, priests have been making the rounds of temporary housing to listen to the victims.
In both situations, the goal is to help people come to terms with their lives and move forward.
