Tadashi Shoji - Designer of Dresses that Make Women Beautiful Worldwide.
In 1982 Tadashi Shoji launched his brand in the United States. For thirty years his work has been adored by women the world over, and he is especially popular with Hollywood actresses when they walk the red carpet. He cuts his 3-dimensional patterns on mannequins, a technique he developed while creating costumes for stars like Elton John and Stevie Wonder. As well as cutting to make the bodyline appear slim, he also devotes great care to selecting materials that are comfortable to wear. Oscar winner, Octavia Spencer wore a Tadashi Shoji dress when she received her Academy Award in 2012 and Beyonce wore one to the Grammys.
As a designer who made his name in the States, Tadashi Shoji seeks not only to compete in the world of high fashion but also to design clothes that make the wearer look fabulous for a reasonable price. His home base is Los Angeles but he transferred design and production to Shanghai in 2006. At the end of July of this year Tadashi Shoji opened the first single-brand boutique in China with the aim of helping as many people as possible wear high-quality dresses. We report from the Shanghai studio on the clothes being made for the 2013 spring-summer season, the collection that was presented in September at New York Fashion Week. Tadashi Shoji's philosophy is to make clothes that will be both needed and loved.
