J-Innovators:
An Ultra-high Precision Grinder
Japan's Subaru is one of the world's most technologically advanced telescopes. This week, we meet a Takumi, or innovator, who played a key role in its creation. He made the grinder that polished its lenses. Subaru's lenses needed to be ground at an extraordinary level of precision, 2/10,000 of a millimeter. In order to do this, the grinder needed to operate with almost no vibration. Michelle shows us just how little the innovator's machines vibrate, and you won't believe your eyes! His grinders are also capable of making 2D etchings that appear 3D. Tune in to find out more about ultra-high precision grinding!

Science News Watch:
Japanese Animals on the Brink of Extinction
Science Watcher John Gathright focuses on news about the Japanese river otter. The river otter was once found all over Japan, but has not been seen since 1979. It has been designated as an endangered species, but the Ministry of the Environment has now made a new decision about its status. What could it be? John also brings us news about the crested ibis, a bird considered "extinct in the wild" in Japan. But now, with the release of crested ibises from China into the Japanese wild, there is new hope for restoring Japan's own wild crested ibis population. Earlier this year, ibis chicks even managed to leave their nest. Want to learn more about this crested ibis recovery? You'll have to tune in.

The Leading Edge:
The Amazing Powers of Jellyfish
Jellyfish are one of the most popular sights at Japanese aquariums. Did you know their bodies are about 95% water? And did you know they have some astonishing abilities? One type of jellyfish is able to do something that humans have been trying to accomplish since ancient times. What could it be? Substances obtained from jellyfish are also being used in medicines, including one remedy for sore knees. Researchers are even hoping to use jellyfish to regrow forests. Join us as we focus in on the amazing powers of jellyfish!
