Walking tour of Tokyo architecture part 1: Historic Architecture

A walking tour of Tokyo architecture. Tokyo has long been a spectacular showcase of Japan's top architectural expertise. This time and next time, we visit some of Tokyo's finest buildings and marvel at the creative genius of each age.
Important Cultural Property in Daikanyama (7 min. 10 sec.)

A tour of Tokyo's traditional architecture.

The first stop for Felicia and Yusuke is Shibuya. They are here to check out a historic building.

The former Asakura residence, built in 1919 for a member of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly. Now it is registered as an Important Cultural Property of Japan and is open to the public.
Tokyo's oldest wedding hall in Meguro (6 min. 15 sec.)

Our reporters' next stop is Meguro.

This is Tokyo's oldest wedding hall, built in 1931.

It has an old ninety-nine step wooden staircase registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan.
Public bath house in Kitasenju (1 min. 29 sec.)

Next we go a little farther afield, to a residential area of Adachi-ku.

This building is a public bath house. Completed in 1938, it continues to attract a lot of local customers.

The exterior is imposing, with triangular chidorihafu, or "plover gables", like the ones in temples and castles.
Restaurant in Nezu (2 min. 26 sec.)

Now Felicia has come to Nezu, an area with many old buildings. She pops into one.

It's a restaurant that's been in business since 1917. There are three stories, made of zelkova wood. Felicia is heading for a seat on the top floor. The third floor can also serve as a banquet room.

I can't re-post files, sorry. The exception is files that are less than a day old. All mediafire links are broken forever. If you ask nicely and show that you tried but couldn't find the file elsewhere, someone may share it again.
