Kansai Yamamoto, Fashion Designer
Kansai Yamamoto has been respected worldwide for his avant-garde designs infused with traditional Japanese elements ever since he became the first fashion designer from Japan to show in London in 1971. In the 1990s, he turned his fashion shows into large-scale extravaganzas to express the power and wonder of people's energy. Now nearly seventy, Kansai is taking his next leap forward-fusing his own style with Asian energy. He produced a fashion event in Beijing in the fall of 2012 to show his new style.
We focus on his latest dynamic work. He is using textiles from Japan, China, India, Indonesia and other countries, as well as their representative motifs to create designs with an Asian harmony. We show the beautiful creations that emerge from this cross-border fusion of energy. This is the new post-European, Asian vision of internationally acclaimed designer, Kansai Yamamoto.
