Kid Golfers Taking on the World- South Korea -
These days, more and more Korean kids are setting their sights on becoming pro golfers. There are now over 3000 young golfers, from elementary school to high school students-double the number of just ten years ago.
One big factor in this is the great strides made by Korean pro golfers on the international stage. And it's not just the kids themselves who have thrown themselves into the game with a passion. Some parents have gotten even more carried away, pouring most of their disposable income into golf lessons or even quitting their jobs to devote themselves full-time to their children's professional careers.
In the midst of this junior golfer mania comes the phenomenon of 17-year-old high-school golfer Kim Hyo-joo, who has scored resounding victories over pros in both Korea and Japan this year. In a Japan tournament, she blew away the field with an astounding 11-under-par, no-bogey 61, becoming the youngest ever tournament winner and setting the record for the lowest score ever posted by a female golfer in Japan. Her exploits have earned her the nickname "The giant killer" back in Korea.
In this episode, we tell Kim Hyo-joo's story: how her devoted father helped her achieve her dreams, and reveal the hard training she is undergoing now as she prepares to turn pro. We also take a close-up look at some other young golfers who hope to follow in her footsteps, and the parents who are never far behind.
