J-Innovators:
Protecting Electronics from Lightning

PCs, TVs, refrigerators, air conditioners and other household appliances can all be damaged by lightning, and that damage can be very costly. You never know when lightning is going to strike next. Today's Takumi has developed an anti-lightning device that is always on guard for lightning, whenever it strikes. He has also built a state-of-the-art lightning laboratory, at a cost of 3 billion yen! Besides protecting household appliances, the Takumi's device has another surprising protective function. Reporter Michelle Yamamoto visits the Takumi's cutting-edge lab, and discovers how he protects people against more than 100 million volts of electricity.

Science News Watch:
A Sensational New Robot

Science Watcher Katsuyuki Sakai was intrigued by a robot that can tell you what an object feels like, without you touching the object itself or even being anywhere near it. We have long been able to see and hear things happening far away, over the radio or on television, but now we can actually feel them as well. A research group at Keio University developed the technology. Sakai hopes it will become useful in remote medical care, emergency rescues and work inside nuclear power plants. How does this robot work? You'll have to watch to find out.

The Leading Edge:
Infrared Astronomy-A Window on the Evolution of Stars and Galaxies

The stars and galaxies are in constant motion across our vast universe, and Akari, a Japanese infrared observation satellite, has been providing some fascinating information about them. Akari uses the special properties of infrared radiation to capture breathtaking scenes: stars being born, intergalactic collisions. Akari has also provided astonishing new images of Betelgeuse, a well-known star in the Orion constellation, and there's a special connection to the Orion Nebula, which sits over 1,000 light years away from Earth. What is this connection? And what makes infrared special? Tune in to discover the answers, and see some of Akari's amazing images of our universe.

I can't re-post files, sorry. The exception is files that are less than a day old. All mediafire links are broken forever. If you ask nicely and show that you tried but couldn't find the file elsewhere, someone may share it again.
