A "Monster Panic" Manga - HAKAIJYU
HAKAIJYU
Manga Artist Shingo Honda and Reporter Kei
Here's the last word in "Monster Panic" manga. Ferocious demons suddenly appear after a major earthquake strikes Tachikawa in western Tokyo. The monsters devastate the city and eat the people as they flee, later emerging in such places as Odaiba and Kyoto as well. This is hell on earth with violence that goes far beyond the normal fare for boys' manga and the shock value has propelled overall sales to more than a million copies.
People said it was anyway impossible to turn this into a live action film but that's now happening as well. Author Shingo Honda was born in Tachikawa and his powerful illustrations are reminiscent of such manga horror masters as Kazuo Umezu and Shigeru Mizuki.
Honda devastates Tachikawa because this is the place he loves. He also loves very sweet coffee. We interview this rising manga creator to discover a highly distinctive world view.
Hakaiju is simply astonishing. It's the ultimate, uncontrollable chain nightmare!
