I'm going to stop updating this blog on a regular basis. This is purely because other things in my life need more of my attention.
You can get recorded NHKWorld shows with bittorrent on d-addicts (usually 720p and limited to BEGIN Japanology), or you can watch them on bestofnhk.tv, which has most shows (I have no affiliation, and it seems to be totally automated). Feel free to add more links to the comments.
If you are wondering about the backlog of shows, bestofnhk currently has many months worth of recordings. At this time, I haven't decided what to do with my files.
Bye!
thanks for everything!
ReplyDeletesorry to see you go, but also thank you for all this.
ReplyDeleteSad to see you stop but thank you again for your work and dedication in keeping this going as long as you did. I really appreciate it. Best of luck to you.

The TOKYO EYE Shimo-Kitazawa episode is available at bestofnhk.tv... It's episode 20120125 TOKYO EYE - Shimokitazawa
Deletethanks for that info!! I have th elink. How can you capture the flv video files if you dont want to watch streaming. I want to save it to hdd.. any idea??
DeleteIf you use Firefox, you can use the the free VDownloader add-on... https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/vdownloader/
DeleteI installed vdownloader but when I enter url it says not valid url
Deleteeg
http://www.bestofnhk.tv/?show=Tokyo%20Eye%20-%20Shimokitazawa%20-%202012-01-25%200930.flv
How do you manipulate url to get precise path so vdownloader can capture??????????
if you have Takeshi Art Beat 2012/07/12 Nobuyoshi Araki episode could you please reshare.
DeleteI'm a big fan of Araki.
You don't have to manipulate the URL path. You just need to click on the drop down arrow next to the 3 spinning VDownloader orbs. It doesn't get much simpler than that. The caveat is that the file names auto displayed are like the URL gibberish so you can simply rename. The .flv's are decent quality (720*404[16:9]@ 30fps w/AAC audio) although the video start/stop cuts are random.
Deletejust change the ?show= bit of the URL to shows/
Deleteeg; http://www.bestofnhk.tv/shows/Tokyo%20Eye%20-%20Shimokitazawa%20-%202012-01-25%200930.flv
In case anyone else wants to record the shows for themselves, here's a little nugget. I don't want to list the whole step-by-step as it may clue NHK World in and cause them to close off the avenues used for recording, but let's just say that if you feed ffmpeg the correct URL, it can save streams to a local file (and also automatically stop after a certain amount of time).
ReplyDeleteHi, have downloaded ffmpeg - gosh its complicated.. just spent 2 hours trying figure out syntax.. no luck.. perhaps you could email me the syntax to capture (coffeexxxAThotmail.com). domo domo
DeleteThanks a lot Librarian for all the great vids!
ReplyDeleteGood luck to your journey!
I'll see you in another life brother.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for everything you've uploaded for your viewing enjoyment. I got to watch many cool and informative shows and documentaries that I wouldn't have been able to otherwise! I wish you good luck on your future endeavors!
ReplyDeleteThank you for all your work so far! I've always looked forward to your uploads every week. All the best in the future and thanks once again!
ReplyDeleteBTW, can mega.co.nz realiable to reshare these kind of files?
ReplyDeleteI own over 30gb of begin japanology, journeys in japan and tokyo eye.
It is best to upload to multiple hosts, Preferably ones that do not require you to jump through hoops like multiple captcha or exploits "downloading" downloaders. I found zippy, megashares, putlocker as some of the better ones. Just need to be careful what you click on. Mega is too many hoops making you allow mega too much unnecessary control over the client. This is the reason go4 up was used since it was less pain on the sites admin for uploads. Though I have had varying results from the service. In the end they are your files to upload.
DeleteAlso rar or zip your files, it is not the best security but ti does help hide them a bit. Also do not use the filename for the rar or zip. This is just makes it easier for the bots to find.
thanks for sharing. I appreciate all you've done to share with us. i wish you good fortune in whatever you do. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the sharing.
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing with us. best of luck in all your endeavors.

Once again thank you for everything you have done.
thanks for all your work. domo domo!!
ReplyDeletebtw - where can I find TOKYO EYE Marounichi part2??
Cant find it anywhere and I watched part 1, need to enjoy p2.
TOKYO EYE Marounichi part2 can be found on the NHK site. However, note that it is divided, by topic, into several videos. All in all, you can download them via Firefox and an appropriate flash video downloader plugin and re-encode and assemble the vids if you want. Bette than nothing! ;-)

ReplyDeletedoes anyone have copies of Asia Biz Forecast? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteIf you need Asia Biz Forecast archive to view, go to: http://www.bestofnhk.tv
