75-year-old Swedish glass designer Ulrica Hydman Vallien seeks out the power of Japanese design to lift the human spirit and add value to goods produced in the rebuilding effort in Iwate and Miyagi.

Ulrica Hydman-Vallien valued her independence as an artist and resisted offers from the glassworks industry for many years. Eventually, she was attracted by the challenge, and the desire to support the local glassworks as an employer in the community.
